How do they do it?

“Ilhan Omar has hypnotized America.”

Here are a couple of “Jewish history lessons” I came across during my crash course in history. The first one is, I believe the shortest of them all, and the second, coming in two versions, kind of nailed it for me.

Please note this page makes up the second part of the short story Any Port In a Storm, which you would be well- advised to read. Then again, maybe you don’t need to.

The first is called: “What the fuck!”

A Jewish country?!! Bwahaha! Cheeky evil monkeys!

___

The second is called: “K-I-S-S!”

(The short version, for those who suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder)

Imagine this. A big mansion, or an apartment block if you will. A nice smiling woman welcomes you at the front door, introduces herself as your host and offers to show you around the inside. The place is noisy and smelly, the corridors and rooms crammed full with people of all colors and shapes. They are doing everything in there: laughing, crying, birthing, killing, eating, defecating, loving, fornicating, nurturing, stabbing, giving, stealing, praising, blaming, partying, arguing, drinking, smoking, singing, farting, reading, tweeting, writing, spitting, picking their noses, praying, beating each other senseless and all these other things that people do. And then, your host opens the door to yet another huge jam-packed room in which a small group of people armed to the teeth huddle in the middle fighting back everybody else in there and she says: “This lot in the middle are our most devious and ugly residents. They hypnotized the whole house, may Allah awaken the other occupants of the house and help them see their evil doings.”

___

(Now the long version, for those with time to spare)

The Egyptians of the Pharaohs hated the Israelites: “They’re our niggers!” they said, “Don’t let their people go”. The Greeks of Plato hated them too: “They’re dangerous and obstinate. Their One God shows no respect for our Gods and culture!” And ditto the Romans: “They’re troublemakers, won’t bow to our Emperors and Laws!” And then came the Christians: “They killed Jesus! Cast off their own Messiah!” And the Muslims: “They’re deniers of the Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him – the last and final Messenger.” And so it is that those we know as ‘The Jews’ have been hated and persecuted through millennia right up to the present. Today the universal cry is: “They’re Zionists! Evil tricksters and land swindlers”. Again and again, or so it would seem, the Israelites stated crime is – while at all times a persecuted minority on the planet – to stand up to intimidation and persist on, whatever the cost, exercising their right of self-determination against the will of the majority.

But how does this work? How is it possible, in today’s information-saturated world when so many literate and educated people walk around insisting that they condemn anti-Semitism and champion justice, fairness, tolerance, diversity and all such emotive notions as “Love not Hate”, how is it possible that the most persecuted and vilified people in human history remain so hated and demonized in the present? Hated and demonized even by other previously and currently persecuted and demonized people? Well, no doubt some may say the answer is simply because the Jews merit the charge, are indeed “worse” than any other living or dead people, and that to say so doesn’t make you a Jew-hater. Of course, not unlike the existence of God, nebulous allegations of this nature – “You’re worse than me!” – can never be forensically disproved to everyone’s satisfaction, but still, in this particular case the historical and actual evidence would suggest otherwise.

For one thing, just as, say, the Christians and the Muslims, the Jews cannot be classified or bound ethnically or geographically as a singular homogeneous nation, be defined as one people characterized by a set of immutable racial characteristics. They do share a faith in common, Judaism, but are made up of many ethnically diverse people and cultures, come in all colors, share blue eyes and brown eyes. And for another, a look at history over the centuries only confirms that, as a faith-nation, they have a very long way to go to emulate or surpass the crimes, horrors, invasions, exterminations and general carnage and ravages perpetuated by other faith-Nations, such as, again to name but two, the Christians and the Muslims, or for that matter geographical nations like France, Germany, Britain etc. Here it should also be noted that the Jews have been around for a long while longer than either the Christians or Muslims, and on that account have also had much more opportunity for mischief.

As things stands, anyone in the Western world with even a rudimentary education or with access to the internet should be perfectly aware of these rather obvious and readily verifiable particulars. Yet, today, among the well-travelled, well-educated, privileged classes and elsewhere many are only too ready to demonize Zionism and the Zionists and single them out for opprobrium from the rest of the planet. Many who like to portray themselves as open-minded liberals equipped with a moral compass, or merely as decent people, have absolutely no qualms or moral inhibitions when it comes to characterizing Zionists as Earth’s greatest sinners, and so to malign the Jews, as if, among humanity, the Israelites are an exception, occupy a very special place, should be held to a higher standard, moral and otherwise, than any other people or nation.

Why this is done can only be a matter of interpretation and opinion which could be debated for eternity. Indeed, the causes behind European and Arab Jew-hatred are diverse and even vary from country to country. Likewise, the engine behind the current growing Jew-hating trend among the U.S. African-American community – another people who long suffered racial and social prejudices through the agency of both Europeans and Arabs, and so perhaps might be expected to empathize with the Jews – must in itself be fuelled by its very own algorithm. So why it is done is not the question here, but rather how does it work? How do people, particularly those who ostensibly condemn all forms of prejudice, set out to demonize the Jews and get away with it? Not just now, but century after relentless century.

Perhaps the answer to that can best be found by looking at what is happening today. In this respect, it may help to consider the case of one Roger Waters – rock star, former Pink Floyd member and currently leading anti-Zionist cheerleader, who recently spoke of “the cultural whitewashing of the racist and apartheid government of [Israel]” and claimed that the Israelis “are executing their neighbor’s children, shooting them down in cold blood every day”. However, as an ageing English white man, he may well be an easy mark, and his opinions and prejudices unrepresentative of today’s changing world. Instead, a look at Ilhan Omar – Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party member of the Minnesota House of Representatives in the United States – may provide a finer choice. If nothing else, she occupies a much larger stage, and in many ways represents the new face of American politics: female, of color, relatively young, “progressive”, standing on a platform of Justice, Democracy, and Progress, promoting equality, solidarity, anti-hatred and racial tolerance. From the height of such a principled soapbox, Ilhan Omar was recently elected to the House of Congress in the United States. Yet, on her way there, some years back during one of the wars between Israel and its neighbor Gaza, she wrote: “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” When confronted about the “anti-Semitic” nature of this statement she was quick to denounce her critics: “These accusations are without merit. They are rooted in bigotry toward a belief about what Muslims are stereotyped to believe.” She never apologized or retracted her statement, which, as her subsequent election to the U.S. Congress proved, did no harm to her political ambition.

Yet, her ‘hypnotize’ statement is both interesting and telling. Interesting because having in effect endowed the nation of Israel and its collective people with supernatural powers amounting to sorcery – an age-old accusation against Jews – she goes on to invoke God to come to the world’s aid and rescue it from Israel’s malevolent spell, in one stroke suggesting that the people of Israel are so very crafty and devious only God’s help can save the world from their wiles, and, it follows, that God is naturally not on Israel’s evil doings side, so making Israel the Devil’s. And it is telling because there exists no record of Ilhan Omar making any comparable accusation of malevolent sorcery against any other country or people in the world, with respect to any conflict or about any human-perpetrated horrors that regularly fill the news. Only Israel and the Israelites are found to be indicted with such a charge, singled out as supernatural “evils” which only God can counter. That is how mighty, devious and sinister the Israelites are, and how weak and in dire need of heavenly deliverance the rest of the world finds itself.

Now, it is useful to turn to what she was ostensibly responding to when she made her “hypnotize” statement. It occurred at the time of yet another conflagration between Gaza and Israel. Hamas was attacking Israel with unguided missiles, Israel was attacking Gaza with jet-delivered bombs. As is always the case when these sorts of things happen between Gaza and Israel, it made for two terrified populations and many dead and wounded. The thing is, up to now at all events, whenever Hamas and Israel have a fight, it makes for an asymmetric battle between the might of Israel’s air force and Hamas’s wayward missiles and other hit-and-miss deadly projectiles. This means that, even though every single missile fired by Hamas is by its own hit-and-miss nature randomly aimed at population centers, in the course of every war a vastly better armed Israel has both the means and tools to inflict greater damage and loss of life than Hamas; from Hamas’s point of view a disadvantageous state of affairs which in itself does nothing to deter it from taking Israel head on and so expose Gaza’s poorly defended Palestinian population to the horrors of war. Rather the contrary. In a bid for sympathy in a macabre theatre of death, come each violent eruption between the two sides Hamas is quick to turn their vulnerability and failure to protect their own people into a public relation exercise, readily tally up the number of dead Palestinian men, women and children and publicize it daily to the world. In this propaganda theatre they are usually fully assisted by the international media and “humanitarian” organizations who pass on these figures together with grim and emotive images of casualties and suffering – usually children – while spotlighting the discrepancies between the low number of Israeli and high number of Palestinian dead and wounded, invariably turning such score-keeping into a potent indicator of who is right and who is wrong. In the discharge of this arithmetic exercise, nothing is made of the fact that each of Hamas’ wanton missiles fired at Israel has the potential to kill many children, or that thousands of Israelites live in terror, sleep in shelters and are only kept safe from harm due to their army’s and leaders’ diligence. Instead, it goes something like this: the more dead and wounded on the Palestinian’s side – especially children – the more likeable and righteous people they become; the fewer dead and wounded on Israel’s side – especially children – the more repugnant and evil they are. In other words, the people of Israel are to be scorned as reprehensible and immoral for being better than their enemy at protecting themselves. And inversely the Palestinians deserve praise and support for bringing horror and death among their own numbers by fighting a fight they cannot win.

It is difficult to think of a more cynical practice in exploitation technique than the use of casualty numbers as a barometer of morality or virtue. Until the Jews elected to take their destiny into their own hands and fight rather than trust in the world’s tolerance and goodwill to let them be, no similar exercise has ever been carried out in order to determine the morality or lack thereof of parties involved in a conflict. Does anyone know or has ever asked who between the French and Germans lost the most children during WW2? Or between the North and South Vietnamese during the Vietnam war? Would the information actually be meaningful, signify some deep truth? And, say, were our two families to go to war and were you to kill eight of my children and me only two of yours, would this make me virtuous and you wicked? Should the world begrudge you your success protecting your family? Should you apologize or perhaps offer to sacrifice six of your own to make things even and fair?

Nonetheless, when it comes to the people of Israel, this is how it is today. Israel is wrong because she stands up for herself and wins wars. She is wrong because for now she is mightier than her enemies and hurts them harder than they hurt her. She is wrong because she’ll do just about anything to defend and protect her own children. She is wrong because she is Goliath and the Palestinians are David, the underdog. And an underdog is easy to like and root for, and it follows that it is just as easy to paint its adversary as a loathsome figure.

Now, it may be thought that Ilhan Omar’s “hypnotize” statement was merely an understandable reaction to the media onslaught of distressing pictures that were coming out of Gaza at the time, that she ought to be forgiven for giving little thought to the people of Israel at such a distressing time, that irrespective of their political allegiances and religious beliefs most decent people cannot help naturally empathizing with the victims of violence when faced with distressing images of their suffering. It could even be alleged that attempts to characterize her reaction as anything other than healthy human compassion is indeed a cynical exercise in its own right. But that would be paying no mind to what she said: “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

This choice of words says nothing about the Palestinians, or their situation. This sentence in no ways forms a rational or even emotional response to the events which were in actuality unravelling for all the world to see in the full glare of the sun and the full scrutiny of the international media, and the concomitant almost universal condemnation of Israel. Again, her words charge Israel with having “hypnotized” the world, express the hope that with God’s help the people of the world will awaken and “see the evil doings of Israel”. To put it another way and leaving God aside, what she says is that Israel is successfully using witchcraft to stop the world from seeing its evil deeds. Only, as it happens, she makes this statement at a time when, with twenty-twenty vision – that is in full view of the world media – the entire world is hour by hour witnessing Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the suffering of Gaza’s people. The underlying sentiment of the sentence completely fails to befit the situation it proposes to address, certainly is not an emotional response to horror, but rather reveals a deep seated sinister lurid view of Israel and its people. She pointedly touts the notion that Israel is even worse than anything anyone can see with their own eyes, much more malevolent than you can possibly imagine, even while you are watching Palestinian “children” being attacked and murdered by her military.

In this, she shares company with the likes of Roger Waters, who for himself regularly issues visceral libels against the people of Israel such as the one previously mentioned here in which he accuses them of “racism” , “cultural whitewashing”, and “executing their neighbor’s children, shooting them down in cold blood every day” all in one message. In other words – besides performing “cultural whitewashing”, a form of words that rings with “ethnic cleansing” – he would have you know that the Israelites don’t just kill their neighbor. No, they kill their neighbor’s children. In fact, they don’t just kill their neighbor’s children either. They kill their neighbor’s children in cold blood. But even that is not quite enough. They don’t just kill their neighbor’s children in cold blood. They kill their neighbor’s children in cold blood every day.

And that is how it is done. How the present day demonization of the Israelites, Jews or Zionists as some now opt to call them carries on unabashed. The people of Israel are burdened with insufferable crimes, unimaginable nefarious powers. It is not enough to accuse a Zionist of committing murder; he or she must have killed a child, in cold blood, every day. It is not quite enough to accuse a Jew of fighting and killing his enemy; he or she must be a witch or sorcerer capable of casting spells. And worse, Ilhan Omar and her like manage this feat by means of using the Palestinian people’s suffering as a coat hanger for their own prejudices. They cloak themselves in peace and justice seeking terms, while in reality they’re not as much seeking peace and justice as painting the Jews as wizardly other-worldly monsters and, in doing so, see to it that there probably shall never be a negotiated peace between the Palestinians and Israelites. Ask yourself this: why should the Palestinians be foolish enough to negotiate their future with a people the world insists is deceptive, cold blooded, in league with the Devil and practices witchcraft? Would you?

Ilhan Omar may beat the drum of tolerance and a fair and just peace in the Middle-East, but her words about Israel tell another story. They expose her as just as prejudiced as the people she allegedly stands against, and suggest she is likely every bit as unconcerned about the Palestinians’ fate as are other more open Jew-haters. In this, her stance barely differs from that of all the rank and file from the extreme right, extreme left and the abundant middle who practice anti-Semitism disguised as anti-Zionism. Sheltering behind the Palestine-Israel tragedy, these anti-Zionists have little qualms hijacking one people’s suffering to malign and inflict suffering onto another. Many speak very well, don’t necessarily manage to look as sincere as Ilhan Omar does while professing to seek nothing but justice and dignity for the Palestinian people but, still, are better accomplished when it comes to semantics. Yet, perhaps because it can prove taxing to contain hatred, they often end up exposed by their very own discourse. They may start by making all the right noises, using the right notes while speaking in support of the Palestinians, but rarely manage to stay on script or not to stray. Few if any ever reach out to both the people of Palestine and the people of Israel. They barely pay lip service to notions such as ending the bloodshed, bridging differences and learning to live respectfully together. Little or nothing is said or done to encourage two people who suffer, struggle and die so intimately together to get along. Endeavors to promote helpful, realistic, rational recommendations or grounds for conciliation are all but discounted. Inevitably, amid all the talk of dignity and professed search for a “peaceful solution”, the focus shifts away from the Palestinians who, like useful idiots, are sold down the river so that the proper business can begin.

And the whip cracks. No denunciation can be bad enough. They’ll have you believe all sorts of other things besides the fact that Israel is evil and hypnotizes you. Israel controls the world’s money and media. Nothing is creepier than Zionism. Zionists are oppressors, child murderers, organ traffickers. Zionists are warmongers. Hamas are the resistance, attacks Zionists in self-defense to protect their children from genocide. Zionists are not human, must not be humanized, come from another planet to spread diseases and discord among humanity. Zionists perform cultural whitewashing. Zionists revel in building walls and fences to keep poor Palestinian women and children captive and angry and dispossessed. Zionists are capitalist colonialists, take immense pleasure in swindling other people of their land and in carrying out ethnic cleansing. In point of fact, Zionists are set on wiping Palestine off the map and killing all and every Palestinian because they have no legitimate claim to their land, have no right to be there, never were even there, and if it says different in the Book on which both Christians and Muslims based their faith it is all the same just a pack of devious lies. Zionists are creepy deceptive monsters, and the Palestinians should never negotiate with them. Zionists are Nazis. The Palestinians want nothing more than the right to lead a peaceful and dignified existence on their own land. And the world would be a much better place if Zionists and their supporters didn’t exist.

Now, imagine this, if you will. Imagine you have the exact same name and eyes you have now, and you and your family live in exactly the same neighborhood you live in right now. And for miles and miles in all directions the people in every single household around your home hate you, clamor for you to go and every so often throw rocks at your windows or fire live rounds at you and your relatives, now and again killing one of you. A long time ago, while you were still a small child and this state of affairs came to your notice, you asked your parents why it was that you were so despised by the neighborhood. And they told you that it’s on account of your name and the color of your eyes. That this is just the way things are, always were, probably will always be, and there’s little to be done about it, except stand fast and make the best of things. So you asked what was wrong with your name or the color of your eyes, and they said: “God knows? Nothing. They just don’t want to let us be, that’s all.” And so you asked why, being so hated, the family wasn’t packing up and moving to a nicer neighborhood. And the answer was that, insofar as you were concerned, there were no nicer neighborhoods. That in the course of thousands of years of wanderings the family had tried settling in many near and far neighborhoods, but always everywhere met with the same hatred, in the end was always driven away or forced to run to escape persecution and slaughter. Many of your forebears were murdered along the way, others, tired, had tried changing their names or eye color, but only with mixed results. In the end, the family settled where you now live because of all the neighborhoods on Earth this was the one your ancestors came from, the one where your kind had once been allowed to prosper in peace before being dispossessed and condemned to wander the world seeking sanctuary. Forbidden from settling anywhere, your family had returned where you now live, the only place they could call home, where they couldn’t be reviled as foreigners or slaughtered or told to move on. And so you asked: “If that is so, why do the people for miles around hate us so much they wish us dead or gone.” “Because they were here when we returned and don’t want us around anymore than anyone else wants us around. They say our house isn’t ours. They say everything here is theirs. That we have no business here, should return where we come from. But, even if we wished it so, there’s no place for us to return to. And we’ve had enough of roving from place to place and being mistreated for it. We need a home to rear our children and bury our mothers and fathers. And if it comes to it, we may as well be killed defending it than be killed wandering strange inhospitable lands.”

Now, you listened to all of this and grew up accepting it as your reality. And as time passed your neighbors never ceased to hate you, still clamor for you to go or die and every so often still throw rocks at your windows and fire live rounds at your front door, every so often killing or wounding one of your number. As a matter of fact, your neighbors hate you even more today than they used to; there’s history now, spilled blood and scores to settle, to say nothing of the goading and encouragement they receive from others who live faraway but have always hated your family. And they no longer merely throw rocks or fire at you. Nowadays, they have machine guns and grenades and rockets, and their numbers are fast growing, on all sides. Some say they want peace, so every now and again you meet with them, see if you could come up with some mutually beneficial arrangement that would allow you to keep your house. Some deny hating you on account of your name and eye color, and at times you’ve offered to give up your garden and a room or two of the house in exchange for peace, but no matter what, in the end it is made clear that you just aren’t welcome there. That you have no right to occupy your house. That the land it is built on once belonged to another family. That it was unfairly repossessed from them many years ago. Or that it was lost during war. Or that its former owners were cheated out of it. You can keep your garden or your rooms, no one cares about them. They want the whole house. They want all of the land it is built on, and you gone from it. And each time you say no to that, as time passes and their numbers and influence grow you find yourself more and more isolated, and know that unless things change you will most certainly one day be so overwhelmed by their numbers that everything you own will be taken away from you, your home, your family and your life.

Now imagine this, and ask yourself what would you do? Would you not fight? Would you say “Yes. Thank you, bwana.”

Hamas leaders have time and time again boasted that, indeed, time is on their side. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invokes the Koran to sanction the killing of Jews: “Those who think they own Jerusalem better know that tomorrow they won’t be able to hide behind trees.” Iran’s and other Muslim countries’ leaders openly hint that, cometh the day, Israel will be wiped off the map. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, exhorted the Nazi to “Kill the Jews! Kill them with your hands, kill them with your teeth! This will be pleasing to Allah!” To his Arab Brethren he said: “Arise, o sons of Arabia. Fight for your sacred rights. Slaughter Jews wherever you find them. Their spilled blood pleases Allah, our history and religion.” And Ghandi, that most peaceful of men, stated while looking back on the Holocaust: “Hitler killed five million Jews. It is the greatest crime of our time. But the Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher’s knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs. As it is, they succumbed anyway in their millions.” And before the Holocaust had written: “If I were a Jew and were born in Germany … I would claim Germany as my home even as the tallest gentile German may, and challenge him to shoot me or cast me in the dungeon … And suffering voluntarily undergone will bring Jews an inner strength and joy … If the Jewish mind could be prepared for voluntary suffering, even the massacre I have imagined could be turned into a day of thanksgiving and joy that Jehovah had wrought deliverance of the race even at the hands of the tyrant.”

Has anyone ever heard of any people other than Jews ever being spoken of in this manner? And here it would be fascinating to know whether, had the British not given way in India, would Ghandi have been just as prepared to advise the people of India to commit mass suicide?

Given their odysseys, most Jews, whether or not Zionists, know their history well and are well aware whose side time will take if peace goes on eluding the people of Israel and Palestine. Yet Ilhan Omar would have you believe that bellicose Israel has hypnotized the world in order to behave like the Devil, and, it follows, hostile to the notion of reaching a peace agreement with the Palestinians. The truth is her concern is primarily with Israel, not the fate of the Palestinians, and she is simply deploying the same old tricks to ferment the same old hatred of the Jews that generation after generation of people all over the world preached before her. And just like they who came before her, she is unstoppable. And ultimately, like always happens, the hatred and prejudices she is embracing will lead to massacres, pogroms, persecutions and fulsome experiments in expulsions and extermination.

Back in the day, Jew-haters said things like “The Jews are responsible for bringing the plague” and “They drink our children’s blood”; nowadays they say the Jews hypnotize the world and kill their neighbor’s children in cold blood every day. In so doing, by using such characterization techniques, they have reduced the Israel-Palestine conflict into a self-serving pantomime, a caricature of a fight between good and evil. Back in the day, the same Jew-haters used to stand on muddy street corners and stir their local mobs with cries of ”God free us from the evil Jews!”, and before long crowds would rush to kill all the neighborhood’s Jews and if this wasn’t enough would raid the surrounding villages. In their current incarnation the same stand safe on high political and humanitarian platforms and demonize the same Jews with cries of “Free Palestine!” And it appears, among the elegant and enlightened classes of the Western World, from Ilhan Omar’s Minnesota to, say, Jeremy Corbyn’s England, such a position wins you votes and devout followers. It’s a matter of expediency really. Everyone needs a dog to kick. A small minority everywhere among humanity the Jews are perfectly suited for the part, whether you’re black, white or brown. Hitler blamed them for more or less everything that was wrong with the world. And it worked. And the same worked and still works for both Christians and Muslims. And it worked for the Romans and the pharaohs. And it works for Ilhan Omar. Looking at it all from the purely pragmatic point of view that hatred of the Jews is the norm, and several decades on from the Holocaust once again an advantageous political currency, who can really blame them?

Now, could a woman savvy enough to get herself elected as a representative to the U.S. Congress sincerely believe that the routinely persecuted people of Israel are sorcerers with the power to hypnotize the world? If she does, she clearly must never have wondered how come a people furnished with the supernatural power to blind the world could be so scrutinized, hated or persecuted, or resented when it happens to “get on with it” and do well for itself.

Could Ilhan Omar really be unaware, unlike Hamas and the evil Zionists themselves, that Israel has everything to lose by never finding peace with the Palestinians, and will only visit more suffering upon its own people by forever waging war against an ever growing enemy?

Is Ilhan Omar truly oblivious to the fact that had Israel ever wished to “commit genocide” as many put it, its people may have tried to “perform this trick” many years ago, either using hypnosis – if you are to embrace her belief – or more pertinently perhaps in view of their unchallenged past military might at a time when they enjoyed a modicum of sympathy before the world had had a chance to move on safely away from the shame of the Holocaust, and before the existence of 24-hour news channels and Twitter?

And, given her evident interest in the Israel-Palestine conflict, could she really be uninformed enough not to know that if Israel is illegitimate on account of being a European colonial creation, then so are many of Israel’s enemies, such as Jordan, Iraq, Syria, modern-day Saudi Arabia and others still. And why, it may be reasonable to ask, is she, an African Somali born person, so exercised with Israel but speaks nothing of tragedies unravelling in her own continent of Africa? Right now, what is it that is so uninspiring about the millions of Congolese men women and children who are being killed or worked to death in the Congo that they deserve nothing but silence? Could it be that, for now anyhow, their tragedy lacks the drama of being blamed on the Jews, and so little is to be made from championing their suffering?

A long time ago, some centuries after the Romans killed over one million Israelites, destroyed Jerusalem and made Rome even greater by building the Coliseum with their looted property, and many centuries before the United States afforded Ilhan Omar refuge from strife and allowed her to prosper and speak of Israel’s hypnotism, the Muslims had absolute control of Jerusalem. One thing they did is rid the city of all the Jews who’d somehow managed to remain within its walls. Well, not all of them. They decided to keep a few alive, and turn them into wretched and repugnant lifeforms. They were forbidden to own property, speak to non-Jews, trade, work for a living, handle money or enter a dwelling. Hence, become filthy rags reduced to sleep out in the open and scavenge or eat whatever was thrown at them not to starve, they were kept by their Muslim masters as pathetic objects of derision, to be mocked, kicked and spat at so that the good people of Jerusalem could be reminded every day of their superiority over the forsaken “people of the book”, and be in no doubt about whose side God was on.

Ilhan Omar may be the new fresh face of America. But she is not Lady Liberty’s America. Or Martin Luther King Jr’s American dream. Or the American Dream millions of people around the world travelled through dark and dangerous seas to reach; a harsh, brutal, unforgiving but always open haven, a place for hope. No. She is grim old darkness come to reclaim the Far West. And it would appear she’s finding fertile ground, and were I anything like her I’d say “Ilhan Omar has hypnotized America, may God awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Ilhan Omar.”

That’s how they do it.
